How to Disable Windows Antivirus & UAC
Why You Need to Disable Antivirus
Gaming software interacts with your game's memory, which is something Windows Defender flags as suspicious — even though it's perfectly safe from a trusted provider. Temporarily disabling your antivirus during installation ensures the files aren't quarantined or deleted before you can use them.
Note: Only disable antivirus for software from trusted sources. After you've added the necessary exclusions, you can re-enable protection.
Step 1: Disable Windows Defender
- Click Start and type "Windows Security"
- Open the Windows Security app
- Go to Virus & threat protection
- Under "Virus & threat protection settings," click Manage settings
- Turn OFF the following:
- Real-time protection
- Cloud-delivered protection
- Automatic sample submission
- Tamper Protection
Step 2: Disable UAC (User Account Control)
- Click Start and type "UAC"
- Click "Change User Account Control settings"
- Move the slider all the way down to "Never Notify"
- Click OK and restart your computer
After Installation
Once you've installed the software, add the program's folder to Windows Defender's exclusions list so it won't interfere during future use. You can then turn your antivirus back on for everyday protection.
